Best tacos in Springfield, MO

The origin of tacos dates back to silver mines of Mexico in the 1800’s. In the year of 2024 I had still not found a better than average taco; however, this is all about to change as I end my search for the best taco in Springfield.

Parked in the downtown parking garage in Springfield, MO for a video shoot I stumbled across Tinga Taco on McDaniel street.  I had a few tacos from their food truck in the past remembered it was worth revisiting.

love the location

The rich character in historic downtown Springfield and the area around the restaurant is a pleasure to explore, from the art work on the buildings to the wide range of businesses.  I entered Tinga Taco and found the dining section to be very underwhelming.  There are a few long tables and some cheap chairs in a very small space.  It was neither inviting or cozy, therefore, I recommend grabbing your tacos and taking them for the road.

so many tacos

The scent of pickled vegetables and limes greeted me from the kitchen as I approached the counter to scan the menu.  The menu has items like “Crusher, Cow Tipper, FU YU…”  I selected the Crusher, Tinga, and Chikelangelo tacos, chips, salsa roja, queso, DP, and a Mexican Coke.  The staff was friendly and the food was prepped quickly.

There is no better Coke than a Mexican Coke and I am so glad they have this available.  The DP was perfectly mixed from the fountain machine.  The chips and taco shells have a slight bit of seasoning which takes it up a notch.  The Chikelangelo has an interesting lime crema, the Crusher is a more classic taco with wonderful taco sauce, and the Tinga Taco has tasty pickled onions and carrots.  The Tinga Taco won’t be for everyone but it was my favorite.  The flavors were amazing and my expectations of a great taco was being completely fulfilled.

Pros:

  • Varied taco types
  • Great flavors
  • Location
  • Prices

Cons:

– Dining area

Overall, Tinga Taco offers the best taco’s in Springfield. I loved the seasoning and varied type of tacos.  This is not the best place for a dining in experience as the chairs and tables are placed into the tight space and are less than comfy. The service is very good/fast, and the staff are friendly.

I highly recommend Tinga Taco because the varied menu options and fantastic flavors.
